This is one of the good books that delves into the design and implementation aspects of sql 2008.The only area i felt it did not touch upon is SQL Replication..which is crux for any RDBMS.I understand that this topic itself requires a lot of effort..but at least the Authors would have touched this topic at a superficial level.Examples that are provided are at length and give the readers a crystal clean representation of the topic..Highly recommended for exp'd DB Professionals.

I recently finished reading "Professional SQL Server 2008 Internals and Troubleshooting" and wanted to write a quick review about it. As a Production SQL DBA who is required to works with a variety of technologies like SANs, networking etc... I found this book to be a wonderful resource. All too often with SQL books the content seems to be geared towards development DBAs and the in-depth discussion of Storage seems to be some sort of black arts to a lot of DBA's. This book seems to fill in the gap in the market where a lot of SQL books fall short for the "Production DBA". I'm glad to see a book that touched on such a wide array of performance topics including disk sub-systems.@Toshana

Interesting manual

I bought this book because I wanted to troubleshoot SQLServer problems clearly and accurately. I always had a vague idea of what to look for but due to time constraints I never actually got to really nail the cause with as much certainty as I wanted.Well I'm about 10-12% of the way through this book and I know more about SQLServer inner workings than any other book has given me. Every single page of this book is packed with useful information and tuning tips. I'm more of a creative solutions person than a technical analytical person but I understood everything that has been so clearly explained in this book.Highly recommended.

I read this book about couple to times to understand all the concepts. Very-very nice book with many new concepts consolidated at one place. Also, remember to read chapter 16 that is on the web.

If you are a DBA, or a developer that really wants to know how the database architecture works then this is the books for you. As a professional DBA I recommend this book for anyone who uses MSSQL in there enterprise to process and store critical data, the detailed knowledge of the full MSSQL stack is very valuable when working on performance tuning and overall MSSQL operations.

This book is a gem for my work as DBA. If you want to impress your boss with smart solutions and you want to learn the "why", not just the "how to" this book is for you! I've already used it a lot as ebook (ye ye it's a legal copy -YOU NEVER CATCH ME!!!-), but I just ordered it as paperback too, because I will put it to my reference library. Looking forward for the next book of Brent's.Regards:Peter Szegedi

BOTH Developers and DBAs can learn from this book. this books shows by clear examples how to Identify Performance Problems and how to solve those.Developers can learn how to Instrument code to help the tuning process.DBAs can then trace the code and find the bottleneck/waits.This book bridges the gap between Developers and DBAs and points out indirectly that Performance is a team's effort and solution.
