In a few months, this is going to feel very special because as soon as I saw the dust jacket (and the case cover under the dust jacket), I knew it would be special.Between Carter Higgins' melodic phrasing and Emily Hughes' timeless illustrations, this book is destined to be found in every home, read at storytimes, and on library shelves for years to come. It's nostalgic for adults who loved (and miss) the delight of planning, designing, and making treehouses while being hopeful and full of wonder for kiddos who have yet to have this experience.A++
I am a fan of Emily Hughes work and bought the book mainly because of that. Its illustrated amazingly. The story is fun too, but a bit odd for me. We like to look at the pictures more, and discuss what all we would have in our treehouses and what we would do if we lived in the one in the pictures.
Opening this book is like walking into a land of rich imagination. My kids and I want to move into every tree house in this book. It's a sort of Swiss Family Robinson for the younger set but set in the backyard. The language and illustrations are lush, layered, and hold up to many re-readings. Love it!
I love this book. The language is lush and feels like something out of my kid’s imaginations. I grew up a city keep, but this brought back feelings of wanting to build forts and climb trees. I guess I wanted a treehouse! The art is stunning and I’m sure your kids or students or library patrons will find a character in the pictures to love. Would work well to introduce some poetry concepts, too.
Gorgeous prose that does not condescend to young readers. Dreamy, magical pictures painted with both words and illustrations. Gave this as a gift for my daughter's 8th birthday, and she is now inspired to see what she can make of our tiny backyard with her friends. Very Gyo Fujikawa-esque.
This beautiful book is sure to be a crowd pleaser, whether you have a treehouse in your backyard or not! A perfect read for kids and adults alike!
